HVAC repair and replacement in Norfolk.

Norfolk’s homes span more than a century, and plenty of them are still heated by boilers, radiators, and Apollo systems most HVAC companies stopped servicing years ago. We work on those and everything newer, diagnosing before we recommend anything, and replacing only when it makes sense.

HVAC in Norfolk

Locally owned, serving all of Norfolk.

Ductman HVAC is a locally owned heating and cooling company serving Norfolk from our office in Virginia Beach. We repair, maintain, and replace air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, mini splits, and ductwork across the city, and we still service the boilers, radiators, and Apollo systems found in so many of Norfolk’s older homes.

Our technicians diagnose the whole system before recommending anything, and they’re paid for their workmanship, not their sales. If your system has life left in it, that’s what you’ll hear.

We serve every part of Norfolk, from Ghent and Larchmont to Ocean View, Colonial Place, and East Beach.

Around Norfolk

Every part of Norfolk, and what its homes tend to need.

A Ghent rowhouse heated by cast-iron radiators and a 1960s Ocean View ranch with crawlspace ductwork need very different things. Here’s what we tend to find across the city.

  • Ghent and West Ghent

    Ghent, West Ghent

Historic homes where boilers, cast-iron radiators, and Apollo systems are still common. Many were never built for ductwork, so adding cooling often means mini splits rather than tearing into plaster.

  • Larchmont, Edgewater, and Colonial Place

    Larchmont, Edgewater, Colonial Place

Older homes with a mix of hydronic heat and early forced-air systems, plus additions and sunrooms the original systems were never designed to reach.

  • Lafayette-Winona and Park Place

    Lafayette-Winona, Park Place, Riverview

Early twentieth-century neighborhoods where hot-water heat and aging equipment are common, and where an honest repair-or-replace conversation matters.

  • Ocean View and Bayview

    Ocean View, Bayview, Willoughby

Older homes near the water, often with ductwork in low crawlspaces and outdoor equipment taking salt exposure from the bay. Sweating duct and corroded outdoor units are frequent calls.

  • East Beach and surrounding neighborhoods

East Beach, Little Creek, Shore Drive

Newer construction at East Beach sits alongside older housing, so we see everything from modern heat pumps to crawlspace duct systems that need attention.

Norfolk’s older homes

Radiators aren’t something to rip out.

Most HVAC companies walk into a Ghent or Colonial Place house with radiators, don’t recognize what they’re looking at, and recommend tearing it out for forced air. That means ductwork run through plaster walls and finished ceilings, and a heating system that’s noisier and less even than the one being removed.

Hot-water heat is some of the most comfortable heating a house can have, and cast-iron radiators can last the life of the building. Most of the problems we find (air in the lines, a failed circulator, a stuck zone valve, a waterlogged expansion tank) are repairs. When cooling is the goal, mini splits can usually add it without touching the walls.

We look at what the house was built with and work with it, rather than replacing it because it’s unfamiliar.

  • Everyone was respectful, a pleasure to work with, and they got the job done in a timely fashion with a great quality of work. My house heats even better now than before. 10/10 I absolutely recommend them.

  • Furnace went out on what seems like the coldest day so far this year. Chris answered our call and promptly sent out a technician to review the issue and provide an estimate. They were able to order and install the part quickly for a reasonable price. I would definitely call them again if we had another HVAC issue.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair boilers and radiators in Norfolk?

Yes. We repair boilers, cast-iron radiators, baseboard heat, and Apollo systems throughout Norfolk’s older neighborhoods.

What is an Apollo system?

One appliance doing two jobs: a gas water heater supplies your hot water, and when the thermostat calls for heat, a pump sends that same hot water through a coil inside an air handler. From inside the house it feels like ordinary forced air.

Our Ghent home has no ductwork. Can we add air conditioning?

Usually, yes. Many Ghent homes were never built for ductwork, so adding cooling often means mini splits rather than tearing into plaster.

Do you work in Ocean View crawlspaces?

Yes. Ductwork in low crawlspaces near the bay is common there, and sweating duct and corroded outdoor units are frequent calls.

Do you handle HVAC repairs for home sales in Norfolk?

Yes. HVAC repairs and documentation for PICRAs and home inspections, scheduled around your closing date.

Do you offer emergency service in Norfolk?

Yes. Emergency service is available 24/7. Call 757-241-0723.
